HEALING DAVAO CITY’S LAST FRONTIER

(March 9-12, 2010) Sitio Mangani, Barangay Tapak is still part of Davao City but it took the Medical and Monitoring Team from downtown Davao City more than 5 hours aboard the dump truck and another 4 hours of arduous trek to reach this remote Ata-Manobo-Matigsalog community, passing through Panabo City and part of Davao del Norte Province to reenter Davao City again.

MISFI, SALT-RD MONITOR AGUSAN SUR PROJECT AREA

Last April 23, 2010, the 7-member MISFI and SALTRD team visited Sitio Cogonon, Salvacion, Trento, Agusan del Sur to monitor its projects there namely; the adjoined School Building and Wellness Center, Rice-Corn Mill, Corn Sheller, Warehouse and Water System Development.

The team of Pastor Leve laurente, Grison Guinocor, Milagros Tan, Homeira Morales, Eduardo Rosauro and MSU students/interns Abdul Gaffar Zacaria and Honey Marie Tulin inspected the adjoined school building and wellness center built by MISFI 2008 and updated the community profile, particularly of its pre-schoolers. Afterwards, the team visited the water system project, Rice-Corn Mill, Corn Sheller and Warehouse.

MISFI, SALT-RD MONITOR PROJECTS IN PAQUIBATO AREAS


Last April 17-20, 2010, the 3-member MISFI and SALTRD team visited Paquibato District, Davao City to monitor its various projects in 6 areas namely; (1) Sitio Panaga and (2) Sitio Surayan of Barangay Colosas. (3) Sitio Butay, (4) Labo, (5) Mangani and (6) Mirol-o of Barangay Tapak.

In Sitio Surayan, the team of Mark Lobetos and MSU students/interns Aiza Balili and Abdul Gaffar Zacaria visited the adjoined school building and wellness center built by MISFI 2008 and updated the community profile, particularly of its pre-schoolers. Afterwards, the team visited the water system project in Sitio Panaga.

MISFI MONITORS 3 PROJECT AREAS IN DAVAO NORTE

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SALT-RD


From April 14-15, 2010, MISFI visited its 3 project areas in Davao del Norte namely, (1) Sitio Lower Camansa, (2) Sitio Lunono and (3) Sitio Tinago. MISFI’s monitoring visit was in partnership with another NGO team from the Science and Alternative Technology in Rural Development (SALT-RD). While MISFI’S concern is with its community education program, SALT-RD’s concern is with the area’s sustainable agricultural practices and the monitoring of animals dispersed and infrastructures.

MISFI hosts 4 MSU students/interns

The Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation, Inc. (MISFI) welcomed the arrival of four students of Mindanao State University-Main Campus last April 12, 2010. This is the second year where students from Marawi City-based MSU participated in the internship program of MISFI in partnership with the Communication and Media Studies Department of MSU.

For their 45-day internship, the four MSU students will travel to different MISFI project areas and immerse with the people of the communities, mostly of Indigenous and Moro culture. The targeted areas to be visited are Barangay Camansa, Sitio Lunono and Sitio Tinago in Davao del Norte, Sitio Butay, Sitio Labo, Sitio Mangani and Sitio Mirol-o in Paquibato District, Davao City, Sitio Dungguan, Sitio Pega and Sitio Sinawilan in Carmen, North Cotabato, Barangay Nabundas in Maguindanao, Sitio Cogonon in Agusan del Sur, Sitio Muling in Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

The four 3rd year students are currently taking up Communications Studies-major in Development Communication. They are Ms. GERALDINE SAMPORNA, Ms. AIZA BALILI, Ms. HONEY MARIE TULIN and Mr. ABDUL GAFFAR ZACARIA. Mr. Zacaria is a full blooded Maranao while the mothers of both Ms Samporna and Ms. Balili are also Maranao.

MISFI OPENS PRE-SCHOOL CLASSES IN 10 COMMUNITIES THIS SCHOOL YEAR

The Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation, Inc (MISFI), through its Community Education Program, will again open its pre-school classes this school year 2010-2011 in the ten (10) communities located in 5 provinces and 1 city in Mindanao, Philippines.
